General Dynamics Land Systems erhielt einen 33 Millionen US$ Auftrag zur Beschaffung von langfristig benötigten Materialien für die Produktion von 140 Kampfpanzern des Typs M1A1 Abrams in der Version SA (Situational Awareness) für den Iraq. Diese Version beinhaltet FLIR-Geräte der zweiten Generation, den Ausrüstungssatz für den Kampf in bebautem Gelände (TUSK), sowie eine Fahrersehhilfe auf Wärmebildbasis. Zur Ausstattung gehören darüber hinaus das neue Tiger-Triebwerk, ein Pulse Jet System und ein Selbstdiagnosesystem.
